Networking, wired, wireless, Virtual Private Networks and other custom tailored network setups are some of the specialties that Fix’n'Tweak team is pleased to offer to individual end users and small businesses alike. Besides just setting up your network, connecting all of your machines together, we will also take time and take great care to make sure that your network is iron clad secure.
Wired & Wireless
Wireless networks and access points are commonly found in most homes and public places, thereby allowing end users to connect wirelessly to the Internet to conduct search, browse the net and perform many other essential tasks. However, quite a few places that feature Wi-Fi access points ( coffee shops, bistros, airport terminals, etc.) including residential areas don’t have their networks secured either by negligence or design. This creates an opportunity for exploitative intent to play in. As a result such setups potentially enable theft of bandwidth, compromise security of data being sent and received over the open waves, cause other harm, etc.
Fix’n'Tweak will help you secure your wireless network with a strong combination of 128-bit encryption keys and your machine’s unique MAC address in order to help prevent network security breach.
For all security and privacy conscious individuals and businesses we highly recommend wired networking at all times. It’s been shown to be much harder to tap into the wire to intercept the data as opposed to intercepting the radio signal of a wireless network.
Virtual Private Networks
Quick Definition: A virtual private network (VPN) is a computer network in which some of the links between nodes (node is a device attached to a computer network or other telecommunications network, such as a computer or router) are carried by open connections or virtual circuits in some larger network (e.g., the Internet) as opposed to running across a single private network. The link-layer protocols of the virtual network are said to be tunneled through the larger network. One common application is secure communications through the public Internet, but a VPN need not have explicit security features, such as authentication or content encryption. VPNs, for example, can be used to separate the traffic of different user communities over an underlying network with strong security features. (Source: Wikipedia)
Fix’n'Tweak technicians will set up a VPN for home or an office based on the needs of end users and/or businesses. We strive to utilize primarily an open source software (license and rolyalty free), and minimize using proprietary technologies whenever possible.
Router & Print Server Setup
Have a wireless router that needs to be set up and secured? No problem! Fix’n'Tweak technician will connect all of your wireless PC’s to your own wireless router securely. If you have a printer that has network capability built in, then it’s probably a good idea to have it configured to be shared, so that end users could print to it over the network without attaching a physical USB cable.
